I suppose you'd have to call a gig on SABC 2 at 16:00 the ultimate gig?
I'm glad I couldn't see the people in front of me... watching at home... I might have died! Hundreds of thousands?
First of all - a sincere thank you to Hectic Nine 9 for having me, and having the RAWkus contest as a platform to promote local, young, unsigned original artists! I wish other TV shows would do the same!
I rocked up at 12:00 to prepare for the 16:00 live show.
I met the two presenters for the day (Ayanda and Danine) - they are really like that in real life. Bubbling with confidence.
I was only given the full brief then. My first song would last about 2 minutes... "Love Letter in Time of War" usually comes in at just over 4 minutes... so I quickly decided to chuck out a verse and chorus so I could get to the meaty bits quickly. I did the same for "Factory Town", which I played for the 60-odd seconds that end the show! Yup! That's one of the benefits of playing live! You can change your song at the last minute!
They did put a bit of make up on my face! It's just to stop me shining under the lights.
I was expecting to see a mix of good and bad feedback on my Facebook page, and on Hectic Nine 9's page itself... but so far it has all been good. I am really happy with that!
I can't believe my good fortune at finding out about the show! For that, I have to thank my friend and former UCT Radio DJ, Danilo, for becoming a presenter on the show. Thanks Danilo!
